Using voice technology to answer travel insurance FAQs

InsureandGo is a British travel insurance company which is owned by MAPFRE ASISTENCIA. As well as the United Kingdom, InsureandGo also has operations in the Republic of Ireland and Australia.

InsureandGo came to Rabbit & Pork with the challenge of taking the most commonly asked questions on their website and using these to build a voice app which could answer their current and potential customers’ enquiries in a hands-free environment.

In 2018 when the project was commissioned, InsureandGo saw that smart speakers were becoming more and more popular, and the way that their audience was searching for information was changing, by gradually moving away from keyboards and having conversations with their devices instead. They wanted to make sure their customers could interact with them in whatever way they preferred, which led them to develop a voice app.

Rabbit & Pork developed a voice app, which was available on both Google and Amazon devices, as a Google action and Alexa skill. The voice app served several purposes: users could get the answers to their travel insurance questions through FAQ content, they could ask for fun facts about a country they were planning on visiting (or had just returned from) to get/keep them in the holiday mood, or they could listen to ambient sounds.

The InsureandGo skill is available on Amazon and can be enabled with the invocation,  “Alexa, open InsureandGo” or Google by saying “Hey Google, open InsureandGo”.
